Let’s talk about food!
We all love food! But how do we know what food we should and shouldn’t eat as often? And why should you care? A theoretical hierarchy exists for the development of an athlete, with nutrition as the foundation. If you have a deficiency at any level of the pyramid the components above will suffer. Kinda like the cheesy, overused saying “you can’t out train a bad diet”…well its true!
Optimal nutrition is about finding the food patterns that work best for YOU. Fitness is a part of our life, you work and train daily to reach those goals you have aspired for. Eating healthy (or optimally for your body) should be the same! This is a lifestyle about building healthier habits that will last you a lifetime (and also make you look awesome naked).
Food choices will determine how much or how little fuel you have for a workout or even just throughout your day’s activities. If you find yourself constantly tired or not recovering well from workouts you may be missing some key nutrients in your diet! The better fueled (food is fuel) you are, the better you perform, the closer you get to those PRs!
Let’s start with the foundations first (you can’t do muscle-ups without being able to do pull-ups first, right?).
Challenge yourself to build an optimal plate:
½ plate of Non-starchy Veggies (and a lot of them!)
¼ plate of Lean Protein
¼ plate of High Fiber Carbohydrates (starch)
Monounsaturated & Polyunsaturated Fats (size of your thumb)
